Home systems that make daily life easier, and actually last.

Sustainable systems for kitchens, storage, family spaces and entire homes. Designed around the people who live there, with deep expertise in ADHD-friendly home organisation.

Home Systems Design — ADHD-friendly home organisation and systems design in Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra

If you've ever stood in your own kitchen and thought, 'How is it like this again?', you're not alone, and you're not the problem. Most homes aren't disorganised because the people in them don't care. They're disorganised because the systems were built for neurotypical brains.

Mess Happens home organisation is different. We don't just declutter and hope. We map out where friction is happening, redesign the environment to remove that friction, and build systems simple enough to survive a hard day. That's how organising actually sticks, for both ADHD and non-ADHD brains alike.

Whether you need a single overwhelming room rescued or a whole-home reset, the approach is the same: meet your home where it is, and design forward from there.

Sound familiar?

  • The kitchen counter is the family dumping ground.
  • Closets are full but nobody can find anything.
  • You've bought the baskets. Twice.
  • Mornings are chaos and someone always cries.
  • Cleaning lasts three days, max.
  • You feel ashamed when people come over.

Who this is for

  • Adults with or without ADHD who are tired of starting over every Sunday.
  • Families with ADHD children, ADHD teenagers, or multiple ADHD brains under one roof.
  • Expat families settling in Lisbon, Cascais or Sintra.
  • Professionals and entrepreneurs whose mental load has spilled into the home.
  • Anyone who has tried 'just be more disciplined' and found it didn't work.

What changes after we work together

Less time wasted looking for things.

Less mental load carried by one person.

Less arguing about clutter.

Easier mornings and smoother routines.

Children who can put things away by themselves.

A home that's still organised six months later.

The process

01

Discovery

We talk through who lives in the home, what's working, and what's been most painful.

02

Assessment

I walk through the space with you, identifying friction points and root causes, not just symptoms.

03

Decluttering

We keep what serves you. We donate, recycle or remove what doesn't, without shame, at your pace.

04

System Design

We design ADHD-friendly storage and organisation systems that match how you actually use the space.

05

Implementation

I organise, label, optimise and build custom solutions where standard storage doesn't fit.

06

Enjoy

You live in the home and we refine. Real life is the only test that matters.

What's included

Every project is shaped around your home and family. Here's what every engagement includes.

  • Free 30-minute discovery call
  • On-site home assessment
  • Personalised system design
  • Hands-on decluttering and sorting
  • Storage and labelling solutions
  • Custom-built solutions where needed (woodworking, 3D printing)
  • Donation, recycling and disposal coordination
  • Family-wide handover so everyone knows the system
  • Follow-up check-in to refine what isn't working yet

Why ADHD homes need different systems

Traditional organising advice assumes you'll consistently put things back, remember to maintain weekly routines and follow rules even on tired days. ADHD brains operate on visibility, friction and energy. If a thing isn't seen, it's forgotten; if a system has more than two steps, it stops being used; if putting something away takes effort, it doesn't get put away. Good ADHD home organisation works with these realities, not against them. That means open storage where it helps, closed storage where it reduces visual overwhelm, drop zones where life actually lands, and labels for every member of the household, including the ones who don't read yet.

Built around your real life

Every project is shaped by who lives in the home. A kitchen for a single professional looks different from a kitchen for a family of five with two ADHD teens, a partner who works from home and a dog who steals socks. We design for the actual humans involved, the actual habits already in place, and the actual times of day when overwhelm peaks. The result isn't a magazine spread. It's a home that's easier to live in on a Tuesday at 7am.

When off-the-shelf isn't enough

Sometimes the storage you need doesn't exist yet. Awkward corners, oddly-sized drawers, a niche under the stairs, a specific tool that needs a specific home. When that happens, I build it using woodworking, simple DIY techniques and 3D printing for the small custom pieces that turn a frustrating spot into a functional one. It's one of the things that makes Mess Happens different from generic professional organising.

Frequently asked

Can you organise an entire house?+

Yes. Whole-home projects typically run across several sessions, room by room, with time in between to let the systems settle and refine what isn't quite right.

Do I need to throw lots of things away?+

Only what no longer serves you, and only at your pace. The goal isn't a minimalist home. It's a home that works.

Will my family have to participate?+

Eventually, yes. But not all at once, and not on day one. We build the framework first, then bring people in once the systems are friendly enough to learn quickly.

How is this different from a regular professional organiser?+

Regular home organisers tidy. We design environments. The aim isn't a clean photo on day one. It's a system that's still working in six months.

What does it cost?+

Pricing depends on scope. Single-room projects start from a half-day. Whole-home projects are quoted after the discovery call so you know exactly what to expect.
